Bonfire Night Firework Displays Near Derby, Swadlincote, Burton and Ashby: A Couples’ Guide

Undercover hot tub glowing after dark at Steam Mill Lodges

There is something wonderfully atmospheric about Bonfire Night. You wrap up warm, breathe in the smoky scent of bonfires carried on the cold evening air, and stand close together as the sky begins to sparkle above you.

Then, when the display is over, you make the short drive back to your own lodge in the peaceful National Forest. The crowds are still making their way home, but you can slip into your undercover hot tub, feel the warmth gather around you, and let the evening become quiet again.

For couples, that is the beauty of a Bonfire Night break at Steam Mill Lodges. You can enjoy the colour and energy of an organised display near Derby, Swadlincote, Burton or Ashby, then return to an adults-only setting designed for slowing down, reconnecting and enjoying time together.

Before you go

Bonfire Night displays take place outdoors, so warm layers, gloves and sturdy footwear will make the evening much more comfortable. A torch can also be useful when leaving busy venues or walking across uneven ground.

Some organisers ask visitors to pre-book, and popular displays can reach capacity. A few events include quieter low-noise displays, which may be preferable if you enjoy a calmer atmosphere.

Please check each organiser’s own page before travelling for the latest timings, ticket prices, parking arrangements and any changes. Some events are particularly family-oriented, while others may suit couples looking for a more grown-up evening out.

Stay over and make the evening feel unrushed

There is a certain pleasure in knowing that the display is only part of your evening. You can share the excitement of the fireworks, take the short drive back through the darkened countryside, and return to your adults-only lodge without facing a long journey home in the cold.

At Steam Mill Lodges, the National Forest setting brings a different rhythm of life. Once you are back, the lights are low, the countryside is quiet and your undercover hot tub is waiting. You can let the warmth ease away the chill, talk about the evening and watch the last traces of colour fade from the sky.

We also offer one-night stays Monday to Thursday, making a short mid-week escape especially easy to plan.

One lodge is still free for Bonfire Night, in our peaceful adults-only setting in the heart of the National Forest:

  • Hazel Lodge — available from 3, 4 and 5 November

With availability from the 3rd, Hazel comfortably covers Thursday 5 November, so you can check in, enjoy the fireworks, and return to a calm countryside base once the sky has gone quiet.

Availability for 5 November is limited, so take a gentle look at the Steam Mill Lodges website to explore the lodges and check current availability and prices. Your Bonfire Night could end not with the last firework, but with warm water, quiet woodland and time set aside simply for the two of you.
